Artificial Grass For Public Places - Home - Landscaping

As many home and private companies have been on the forefront of turf technology, installing synthetic grass in their backyards and business spaces, many major cities are following this environmental friendly trend, in choosing artificial grass over natural grass in city spaces. Some of these major cities include Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City. These metropolitan areas are realizing the many cost and environmental advantages of synthetic turf used in city owned spaces, including parks and sports fields.

For example, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has advocated for the use of synthetic turf in city athletic fields and play areas. This organization argued that the level and even playing surface and built in padding that artificial grass provides was a safer alternative than natural grass in these city spaces.

City school districts are also making the decision to go with synthetic grass in places like Arlington, Virginia and San Diego, California. School Districts in these areas have started to install artificial grass fields on some of their middle, junior and high school campuses. There's even talks of the Los Angeles Unified School District, which is one of the largest in the country, moving forward on installing synthetic turf on many of their campuses in their attempts to make their learning institutions more environmentally friendly.

While the installation of synthetic turf can be deemed expensive, there are many cost, environmental and time saving benefits that override the cost of the initial expense. Unlike natural grass that must be watered regularly, requiring costly sprinkler systems, artificial grass maintains itself with its internal drainage systems. Cities and school districts will also save money on water and power expenses, as well as conserving precious environmental resources.

Considering artificial grass does not need to be mowed, the use of turf over natural grass, allows for less chemicals and toxins from industrial strength lawn mowers to be expelled into the environment. Synthetic grass in city spaces also eliminates the use of dangerous fertilizers and pesticides that regularly used to maintain natural grass spaces.

Additionally, cities can save money by not being forced to close down streets and parks to allow for city workers to water, tend and trim lawn spaces. Since these public spaces won't be subject to regular maintenance and upkeep duties like re-sodding and mowing, they can stay open longer and the space can be utilized to its fullest advantage.

Durability is also one of the primary benefits of synthetic turf for city spaces, as artificial grass is engineered for maximum playing, which means city parks can withstand droves of children playing, evening practices and weekend sports tournaments all year long. Artificial grass can also more readily endure a wide variety of weather conditions, especially in areas where seasonal changes often wreak havoc on city landscaping. With the ability to maintain it's lush green appearance despite extreme heat and easily drain away rain, sleet and snow, synthetic turf is the ideal substitution for natural grass in city and school parks and fields.
