Synthetic Grass - The Pros And Cons - Home - Landscaping

Synthetic grass has become increasingly popular over the years since it was first introduced in the 1960's. During that era, synthetic grass was primarily used for sports like football, making its debut in stadiums. Since it's following, synthetic turf is used for residential, commercial, and recreation use. There has been a significant increase because of its benefits and advantages over natural grass. While there are positives aspects to synthetic turf, there are also negative aspects. To get a better understanding of whether or not artificial grass is the perfect choice, we'll weigh out the pros and cons.

Why many people do prefer artificial turf, the main reason is because it saves a lot of time and money in the long run. Not having to deal with mowing, watering, and fertilizing your lawn. Nor would you have to deal with purchasing any gardening products that it requires maintaining. All of these add up in time, and eventually you will be saving a considerably large amount of money from saving water and maintenance fees. In addition to saving time, and return on investment, there are also environmental factors that take place. Synthetic grass does not use any chemical products such as pesticides or fertilizer. It is also resilient and long-lasting which means long periods of playing time. Synthetic turf has an outstanding drainage system that it does not leave any puddles, and dries up very quickly making it available immediately. When playing on artificial grass, the evenness and consistency of the surface makes it easier to play on, this also reduces the risk of injuries among players.

Why many people stay with natural grass is because the installment of artificial turf can be very expensive and not affordable. Others also believe there is more to the upkeep of synthetic turf such as repairs, refilling of the tiny rubbers to maintain cushion, and watering every now and then to remove residue or debris after use. Another main reason why they stay away from artificial grass is because of the dramatic increase in temperature because the rubbers heat up like coal when it is hot. It makes it difficult for players to play on because the high temperatures can cause quick fatigue and extreme hydration. More importantly, many believe that artificial turf isn't safe, especially for children. Research conducted by health departments have found that lead and other harmful chemicals are contained in the rubbers within the artificial grass. That can lead to infections or health issues overtime. However, many turf companies have conducted enough research and have abide d by the health rules that many synthetic turf products are in fact safe to use, and do not contain any lead.

The pros and cons of synthetic grass are not one sided. In fact, there are good arguments on both sides. Whether or not artificial grass is right for you, it is ultimately your decision. Do your own research. It is always important to know what the pros and cons are before you fully invest on something.
